Thinking of changing accountant? Never been easier!

Some of the most common feedback we hear is that people are unhappy with their current accountant but feel it is too difficult to change. Their current accountant holds all their information, so they stick to the status quo even though they are unhappy.

Tired of feeling taken for granted?

Despite this, changing accountants has never been easier. Your new accountant will do most of the work! Once you have engaged a new accountant the steps are as follows:

  1. Your new accountant sends an ethical letter to your old accountant

This ethical letter lets the old accountant know they are taking over your tax affairs. The old accountant will send over all required information to your new accountant including software access if they hold your file.

2. You need to nominate your new accountant as your tax agent

Just simply identify yourself and log into Online Services for Business which is a free online website designed by the ATO. Type in your new accountants name or tax agent number to give them access to you on the ATO portal. If you are an individual this step is not required!

That’s it…..

What about if you are on a monthly agreement?

If you are paying your accountant a fixed amount every month- no worries. When you change accountants, your old accountant will work out all work completed for the year and compare it to the year to date payments you have made.

You might have a small top up payment to pay, but depending on what has been completed you might receive a refund!

If you have any questions on the best way to transition, please let us know!
